HIP HOP IN THE PARK

What is Hip Hop In The Park?

Hip Hop For Change proudly presented our Hip Hop In The Park Initiative in partnership with India Basin Waterfront Park, California Arts Council, and The San Francisco Foundation. Our goal was to develop culture bearers and Hip Hop arts practitioners within the Bayview/Hunters Point neighborhood through a series of events, performances, workshops and activations within Bayview/Hunters Point Area parks and open spaces open to the entire community.

Through the use of Hip Hop Pedagogy and Cultural Responsiveness we successfully raised awareness about access to local park spaces and engaged youth in the cultural contributions of locals and their history.

HIP HOP 50TH ANNIVERSARY Kick-Off Event

We launched our program with a highly publicized Kick-off event celebrating the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop. We partnered with the Annual Fall Fest at India basin Shoreline Park, featuring performances from local rappers, DJs, dancers, and visual artists with interactive workshops, and a keynote address from Mayor London Breed. This community event served as an opportunity to recruit participants for the upcoming workshop series and build awareness around our upcoming community activations.

Black History Jam

In honor of Black History Month we partnered with San Franciscos’ Annual Black History Celebration to provide workshops in Breakdancing, beat making, & graffiti as well as a lineup of performances from some of San Franciscos Underground Hip Hop heavy hitters,
